Matthew Carty, MD

Matthew J. Carty, MD is an experienced, compassionate plastic surgeon who specializes in complex reconstructive surgery of the breast and hand. He is board certified in plastic surgery and director of the Lower Extremity Transplant Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Carty has particular expertise in free flap (autologous) breast reconstructive procedures that use women’s natural body tissue to create new breasts. During free flap reconstruction, he now gives women the possibility of sensory restoration with Resensation℠. The surgical technique makes it possible for Dr. Carty to reconnect the nerves in the chest with those in the free flap, potentially restoring both aesthetics and sensation.

This advanced technique shows the promise of revolutionizing free flap reconstruction and aims to become the standard of care.
