Jules Walters, III, MD
Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Jules Walters specializes in breast reconstruction and cosmetic surgery of the face, breast and body. Dr. Walters approaches every procedure with an aesthetic sense and believes that dedication to detail is of the utmost importance.
With expertise in microsurgery, Dr. Walters offers women the option to have autologous, or free flap, breast reconstruction, which uses a woman’s own tissue taken from the abdomen or other area of the body to recreate breasts after mastectomy. Dr. Walters is one of a select number of U.S. plastic surgeons performing breast neurotization with ReSensationSM, an advanced surgical technique that has the potential to restore breast sensation in reconstructed breasts.
I want to offer women the chance to not just have reconstructed breasts, but to be able to look in the mirror and feel beautiful. I want them to feel confident and to not be constantly reminded of breast cancer.
ReSensation is the next frontier in breast reconstruction. I hope that providing information about this technique that could potentially restore sensation will reduce the fear and anxiety that patients face.
Ochsner Baptist Hospital
Dr. Walters’ academic background includes graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and a medical degree from LSU Medical School in Shreveport. During a general surgery residency at LSU New Orleans, he scored the highest in his class on the in-service exam each year. His peers chose him for the Outstanding Intern Award during his first year of training.
After completing his general surgery residency and a plastic surgery fellowship, he continued his training with a three-year plastic surgery residency at the University of Texas at Houston. He trained at Memorial Hermann Hospital, one of the busiest trauma hospitals in the country.
During his plastic surgery residency, Dr. Walters developed a profound interest in breast reconstruction, specifically the DIEP flap. He received training in the DIEP flap and other flap breast reconstruction procedures at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center. He has also traveled internationally to provide reconstructive surgery to children born with congenital defects.
Breast reconstruction with attention to detail
After nearly a decade of intense surgical training and learning from experts in the field, Dr. Walters returned home to New Orleans and joined the practice of Dr. Kamran Khoobehi at Khoobehi & Associates. Dr. Walters meets with each patient individually to collaborate on treatment options and how to best reach your goals. He believes in listening to his patients and providing a warm, relaxing environment, where patient safety and satisfaction are paramount.
