Dr. Galen Perdikis is a plastic surgeon at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a professor and chair of the Vanderbilt Department of Plastic Surgery.

With clinical areas of interest in aesthetic and breast reconstructive surgery, Dr. Perdikis’s specialties include breast reconstruction using microsurgery and the surgical management of lymphedema for women in recovery from breast cancer and mastectomy.

Dr. Perdikis also offers ReSensationSM, a surgical technique that has the potential to restore sensation to the breasts of women who undergo DIEP flap or other autologous (free flap) breast reconstruction. Flap reconstruction is a procedure in which plastic surgeons recreate breasts uses a woman’s own tissue, usually taken from the abdomen, buttocks or thighs. With the addition of ReSensation to flap reconstruction surgery, surgeons use magnification to reattach nerves in the chest with nerves in the transferred tissue. Over time, the nerves regenerate, potentially returning sensation to reconstructed breasts.

This advanced technique shows the promise of revolutionizing free flap reconstruction and aims to become the standard of care.
